Thesis Hack: How to Display Your Full Youtube Channel in Thesis Theme?

As thesis theme offers much exposure and functionality to your blog, number of thesis theme user increases day by day. And the thesis resources also increasing in online.

Here is another one. Today I am going to show how to add your or other persons Youtube channel or play list in thesis theme. I have done this using the multimedia box given in thesis. Most bloggers do not use multimedia box as they think it is used only for showing images or videos. But you can use it to show rotating ad banners in sidebars and also as I used here to show Youtube channel.

I decided to start my fully dedicated tutorials especially video tutorials two weeks before. In short span of time with in 10 days, I have uploaded 40 videos in my Youtube channel.

I have been using different promotional techniques to increase my video views. At the same time I want to display the entire Youtube channel to my blog readers. So I come up with this idea. Here is the procedure how I add the channel in thesis footer. First get the youtube channel embed code in youtube login here Account->Custom Player.

Watch the full video tutorial here:

1. Copy and paste below code into your custom_functions.php. You can do this in one of the two ways. First one is go to wordpress dashboard. Click on ‘Custom file editor’ under ‘Thesis options’. Select custom_functions.php and click ‘Edit Selected File’. Then paste the below given code in bottom and click on ‘ Save button’. Alternatively you can do this by pasting the code in launch.php through ftp. Your launch.php should be like this public_html->wp-admin->themes->thesis_16->lib->functions->launch.php.

2. Remember you should replace your Youtube channel embed code in the  following code as it is having my own channel code. The embed code starts with <object> and ends with </object>. The second one change need to be done is, based on your footer customization. Add the last line which is a hook in appropriate place as per where you want to show the channel in footer, if you have already other footers. Otherwise you need to make more changes in custom.css style sheet code. You might be needed to add div function also if you want to separate your youtube channel from your other widgetized footer area.

//video player in footer

function mm_box() {

echo '

<h5>' . __('<a target="_blank" href=""> Subscribe To Fourblogger YouTube Channel</a> ', 'thesis') . '</h5>' . "\n";

?><div> <div><a title="footer" name="footer-video"/a> <br/> <object width="746" height="413"><param name="movie" value=""></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="746" height="413"></embed></object>

add_action('thesis_hook_footer', 'mm_box');

Custom.Css style sheet code:

  1. The main part is you have to customize the look and position of the youtube channel. Here below I have given my custom.css code. Just copy and paste the code in your custom.css. Then change the color, height, background as per your wish.
/* footer video*/
.custom #footer h5{

.custom #footer h5 a:hover{
.custom #footer h5 a{

Thesis has more customization resources. But you should need some basic knowledge of css adjustments and thesis hooks to make use of those customization resources for your blog. The more I look at your Youtube footer the more I like it. At first I thought it took up too much space, but now I think I might give it a go once I get some more videos up. The design is a custom layout in Youtube correct?
