How to Use WordPress Dashboard Options in Wp-admin

In this video tutorial explains about how to use wordpress dashboard. We know wordpress is a best platform for blogging. In wordpress we can use two types of hosting. One is free hosting ie wordpress.com another one is self hosting wordpress.org. This tutorial I am explaining about both these two free hosted and self hosted wordpress dashboards and here you can find more video tutorials.

Once you installed wordpress in your blog (this is only for self-hosted blog for free hosting no need to install wordpress) Login your wordpress admin. Inside your admin you have dashboard, posts, media, links, appearance, users, tools and settings options in the left side of the wordpress admin. The below video explains how to use dashboard effectively.

WordPress.com Dashboard

Word press.com dashboard is looks like the blow image. Here we have the options to see our blog stats and you can also see if you have any other blogs in wordpress.com.

In this wordpress dashboard top right we have ‘screen options’ if you click on this it will expand. And also it has some options with check box. If you mark the check box the corresponding option will display in the dashboard. The available options are Right now, Recent comments, Incoming links, Your stuff, What’s hot, Quick press, Recent Drafts, and Stats. You can enable which one you need in dash board.

Also we have layout options you can change the number of columns to display in dashboard as1or 2or 3or 4. The above image I have enabled 3 columns.

Self-Hosted wordpress Dashboard

The self hosted wordpress dashboard looks like the below image. This dashboard has no options in the left side. If you click on the ‘screen options’ in the top right, it has these below options with checkbox similar to wordpress.com.

The available options are Right now, Recent comments, Incoming links, Plugins, Quick Press, Recent Drafts, WordPress Development Blog and Other WordPress News.

Here we have plugins option it give the installed plugins list. By using quick press you can easily publish small contents quickly. By using the Recent comments we can approve into blog or mark as spam in dash board itself.

Layout options are similar to wordpress.com. The above image shown 2 columns enabled in layout. The next tutorial we will see about how to publish new post in wordpress blog. Share your experience in comment section.

I guess that You are using wordpress.com to host your domain.

To use the plugins option, you should use self-hosted wordpress version wordpress.org

For this not only a domain needed, but you need a hosting too. Check this two post to learn how to do it.
