Just now I have finished set up of my membership site, I thought that definitely it would be useful to some of you who want to start a member’s only private area in your existing blog or to someone who want to launch a membership site.

Where to host my membership site? Which membership site software should I use? Can I start a membership site using Wordpress blog? How to convert Wordpress into Membership site? Is there any Wordpress plugins to set up membership site in blogs?  How much does it cost to start a membership site? Which Forum software should I use for membership site? How to install membership website software in my server? What are the server specifications should I have before starting a membership website? How much server resources like storage, bandwidth, CPU, IP should I have for handling expected & unexpected traffic?

Oops. Definitely it takes a long time to decide the things and start a membership website. If you are planning to launch your membership website on October 1, then you should start the pre-works at least before 45 to 60 days, say in this case August 1.

I am not recommending you to watch this video for the sake of choosing one of the 10 membership website models. I know you have already planned how your membership website would look like. If you watch the video then you may able to add more features & functionalities with your existing requirement.

Right Time to Launch Membership Websites

If you have a targeted audience, then this is the right time to launch your membership website. There is no big number of audience requirements unless you have big target or expectation. As far as my concern, you can launch your membership website even if you don’t have big email list, well-known blog and great network with A-list bloggers. If you have belief on yourself, on your product and on your marketing capabilities then I call you, “Come on! Let us launch more membership/subscription websites”.

Is it hard to launch Membership Websites?

As I told you above, it takes more time. But definitely launching a membership website was NOT hard for me. If you have wisely chosen hosting server, membership site script or membership WP plugin, payment gateway and affiliate program setup, then launching a membership site won’t be hard & won’t take more time.

Difficulties in Launching a Membership Website

1. Choosing the right technology say server, membership software, Forum, payment gateways, affiliate systems, email Auto responders etc.
2. Picking the right combination of technology. For example, you will love a membership plugin for wordpress but it won’t integrate with your preferred payment gateway.
3. Installing the softwares and integrating different things. You should check/consult about whether your all scripts can be installed in your server before buying them.

Technical Things you will need to start a Membership Website

1. Membership Website Software (If you are going to start a member’s only area without CMS, then you can go for these softwares )
2. Membership Website Wordpress Plugin (Only if you are going to start your membership site through Wordpress CMS. If you have already used Wordpress and you didn’t know coding to build websites, then either case I recommend you to go for Wordpress to setup your membership website)
3. Forum Software (If you want to offer a Forum access to your members- Many Forum softwares are free and if you choose Wordpress to launch your membership site, then I recommend you to go for Free plugin named “Simple-Press)
4. Payment Gateway – To process all your member payments, you need a payment system setup like Clickbank, Paydotcom, 1shoppingCart.
5. Email Autoresponder – To deliver all emails for newly registered members and to send members-only newsletters, you will need an email marketing autoresponder like Aweber, Mailchimp, Autoresponse plus, Getresponse.
6. Hosting Server for Membership Website – A server that can capable of running your Membership Site software, Wordpress, Forum scripts, etc and it should have server resources to the level of your traffic expectations. (I am using VPS.net’s Cloud Hosting)

As I mentioned in end of the previous part, I thought that any one of these things could be the reasons to my dissatisfaction. 1. Writing Yahoo answers again and again 2. I could have expected more income 3. I didn’t feel settled in my life.

I wanted to test one by one to find out the exact reason. I decided to try something different & started to take variety of online jobs instead working on Yahoo answers alone. My other jobs were forum posting, participating in beta tests etc.

I could not do all the works by my hand. All the jobs were making same income per hour. So I thought that I could take orders and outsource the job to some one. I contacted some of my friends who wanted to earn money in part time jobs. As I was always working in online, it was usual my friends called and asked for part time money making opportunity. So easily I could outsource orders to them.

I charged from my clients more than what I charged previously so that I could make money even though I paid to my friends to whom I outsourced my job. Clients were happily paying the amount as they got more benefits from such this low paid jobs & as they found hard to identify someone who can do Yahoo answers writing with care and consistency.

Income Doubled. But…

My income doubled. Because I was working same as before and my friends were also working for me. Even though my friends made money for me, I had never slept lazily. I can proud for it.

But I thought that I should outsource all those yahoo answers submission, forum postings, participation in beta tests etc so that I could concentrate on something differently in Online.

As same as I mentioned earlier, even though my income doubled I did not satisfy. I realized that money could not be something that could keep me happy. But did not know what the exact reason was. That’s why I decided to outsource all the works I was doing and to do something differently.

Digital point forum was my favorite hang out place. Logging in everyday became habitual. At one point I could not pass time even few minutes of Digital point forum down times. Using forums helped me to learn so much online things. Although I was in all popular forums, especially I learned so much online things from Digital point.

There (DP forum) were people all over world coming to talk about Google, General marketing, hosting, Payment processing etc. I used it as good opportunity to learn about those things and how people make money online using websites, jobs, business etc.

Ok. Let us go back to see what happened after my dissatisfactions.

Once I dissatisfied with the work, I did outsource whole works that I were doing until that minute and look for other high earning ways to do it by myself. At that time, I saw that same service (it might be directory submission, article submission etc etc) offered by different PEOPLE in different COSTS in same forum. Like that, I could see that same service offered by same person for different costs in different forums.

Press Release Submissions

I came to this idea. I could get order for $30 and outsource it to some one who was doing it for lesser than that. At that time, there was huge demand for press release submissions.  Many individuals and small firms offered press release submission service in Digital point forum for $20 to $30 per submission.

I contacted a guy who did $20/per single PR writing+submission in one forum and bargained for more number of orders. He accepted $16/per PR if I gave more than 10 orders per month. I accepted it because getting 10 orders per month wouldn’t look hard as there was heavy demand for PR.

I opened thread for PR service as $25 per PR and mentioned that first five reviewers will get it for $20. I received and outsourced daily more orders. Within 3 days I had given 10 orders to the outsourcing guy. He wondered. Because I was getting orders from different forums but that guy used only DP and I contacted the people who had previously contacted me for Yahoo answers for their niche websites.

I opened threads in v7n forum, Digital point forum, site point forum and other small forums. This business was going fine. I could earn 5 to 15$ per order. It boosted my income. I earned more than 1000 US$ in my first month of Press release service. The guy to whom I outsourced was brilliant and brought clients’ site for popular keyword in first page of Google news search. So clients got happy and some of them ordered for all their small niche websites.

Negative side of the outsourcing job/business

The only negative of this outsource business was, clients often contacted me about the status of order although I had already told about the turn around time of 3 to 5 days. What I did is, I came visible to my clients only when the outsource guy came visible to me in chat. I was copying the chat I received from my client and paste it in outsource guy’s chat window and vice versa.

Then as soon as possible I realized the great demand for press release websites, I looked some ways for make MORE money through it. Actually the forum people only offered cheap PR service. The people who had separate website and portfolio for such services charged and made more money. So I thought that I should go for something higher.

I decided to create a website for PR service alone. Fortunately I bought a ready made press release website through Site point website marketplace  (It is now called as Flippa.com).

My second website Distributepressrelease.com

The website name www.distributepressrelease.com. I explain you what I did with it. I just put the price as $47/PR in that site and created free email through Google Apps. I created two email ids. One was info@distributepressrelease.com & another one was paypal@distributepressrelease.com I showed this site and gave these email ids to the people who PMed (Private messaged) me for quotes and bargains in Forum.

As my site showed $47 and I told only DP members get it for special price $30, I could convince them easily for $30 orders. As this trick worked well, I earned $14 profit for every order. My mind got triggered and wanted to go for higher prices. I decided to go for search engine advertising. I opened my same old Google adwords account after long period which was opened at 2006 at my college just to know what it is.

I was bit happy due to there was Indian payment options like DD, cheque and online transfer. This was not provided when I first opened at 2006. That’s why I left the idea of using it at that time. Then I paid through DD (I took DD from bank and send it to Mumbai Google address).

I did not know that something should be going to happen.

Experimenting Google Adwords

My amount credited after 8 days in Google Adwords and set up my first set of PPC ads. Ads ran well. My account was debited continuously but no orders. I bit worried. Because I had spent $50 money but no sales, continued my ads to ran (I learned to adjust ads as per some PPC guru’s guides for Adwords dummies) another 50$ spent but no sales.

But I noticed tremendous change in click through rates as I had designed the ads as per the guidelines of PPC guru’s guide of Adwords dummies. So I thought that there was really some chance to get sales and mistake was only my newbies knowledge of using Adwords. I again ran the ad for $50 with more optimized ads.

Fortunately I got 2 sales. That means I had to pay only 32$ to the outsource guy and profit was $62. But I totally spent around $150 to get those orders. So my loss would be 88$. Wasn’t it? It was not. Because one of the person among the two who ordered via Adwords gave me further orders for her clients. She had been running a small firm which focused on publicity of small business websites.

She honestly said that she had clients to the potential of paying even $97/site. Finally we both went under settlement like this. I had to charge $40 from her and She charged $67 from her clients. Business was going smooth. Actually I could manage high orders as I got new guy to whom I could outsource. This guy was introduced by the seller of my PR site I found at sitepoint.

End of PR services

But very sooner that guy went offline for so many hours and did not complete in turn around time. I threw him out of my business. Unfortunately my other loyal outsource guy found something different job opportunity and went away. I had to look for some other one. But I did not. Because as I told in my previous success, this time was also I felt something not good, I was never much happy and satisfied.

I thought that instead go for branch by branch as a monkey, it would be better if could decide what I really wanted and what really could please me.

Oh. What a great improvement in last month. While I was in college, I could not figure out some things although I tried for 2 years. But in just 6 months I made more than 3000 US$ (I sold my PR site also to some other guy. That income also included in this. Now I feel sorry for selling that site. Because I don’t have access to that paypal email to take screenshots). I DIDN’T get back the ring and I even not spent the money to my home and not spent for myself also.

I tell you what I did with the money in my next part of this series. Don’t worry! I won’t make more parts. I will finish this series in couple of posts. Thats why I wrote this part as simple, actually it would have come long (Because I learned a lot in this press release service as it was a business in which I had to engage with clients).

In my second part , I shared my experiences with ready made money making websites and blogspot. Today I am sharing what happened with my adsense & how I turned into different money making ideas by leaving blogging even before know about what is blogging.

I applied for Google Adsense within couple of weeks. Getting approval from Adsense was not THAT MUCH hard as it is in nowadays. Next day I got approval email from Google Adsense and somehow felt happy.

The next days after getting Adsense approval were thrilling. I first opened Google Adsense account everyday even before opening my email inbox.

I chose different ad formats and ad sizes. My earnings were increasing very slowly. I felt bad. If it would go in same rate, I should have to wait at least 6 months to reach minimum payout level ($100).

Making a Living on GOOGLE ADSENSE

I knew I had to write MORE content so that I could make more money in Adsense. But I could not write more content.  Two reasons were: I was getting very few hours to browse as I was in end of third year of college (At that time, new Principal, Director were posted in my college, they were strict, I could not cut & escape from college as I did in my previous semesters).

Next six months I was writing content occasionally and my earnings very slowly were increasing. It took 7 months to reach minimum payout. I finished seventh semester in final year of my degree. I understood that I was in final state of my college, this was the time I had to decide whether I should concentrate on studies or I should pursue skills to make money online. By this time I had been sent a Google Adsense PIN which I should enter in my Adsense login.

I chose the option easily as the second one. The decision taken was THAT MUCH easy as I always tried to live in a way I WANTED TO and I believed that my studies won’t make it. As I told earlier in this series, I will tell you at end of this series what is the aim in life and how I want to live.

Ok. We will go back to final semester of my college.

My First Google Adsense Cheque Arrived

I was very much excited to get my first Google Adsense cheque so that I could get back the ring I pawned as third time. The day very sooner came. I was refreshing the Adsense login everyday every hour to see what the payment status was.

Luckily one day I got updated as my cheque was posted to my address. I was eager to receive my Adsense cheque. One week later, I received my cheque. My first cheque was for Rs.4800. I went to bank and immediately deposited cheque in my account.

Once cash credited in my account, I went to pawn shop and got back the ring. What a nice one. It was same like that as it was given to me at first time by my grandma.

Google Adsense Disabled my Account

I got more interest on working online and I increased my posts slowly day after day. I planned to do online job or business after finished my college.

Again in 2 months, I expected my second cheque as I crossed $100. Unfortunately I got email one day from Google Adsense no reply email as my account disabled. The reason mentioned was that Google took the decision due to advertisers benefit and requesting further reason not recommended.

What the hell! My dreams blew in some seconds. The whole earth seemed dim. I was really disappointed. My college also ended. My life became a question mark? Who would answer for it?

No one would be able to answer for others life.

I should answer myself.

As always I was not giving up anything easily, I decided to settle somewhere (my college course ended. I had to find another one place to stay) and to continue my online search.

My Life as a Fresher Who searches Jobs in IT Firms

I went to Chennai (capital of the Tamilnadu state) as many of friends also came there to search jobs in big IT companies. I tried to search jobs only for a week. Then I did not go for any interview.

I started to sit full time (6 to 8 hours per day) in browsing centers. It cost me heaven. I spent the whole money which I got from my father through asking for interview expenses. I developed a blog in which I put actress images but hardly got visits. I searched for traffic techniques. My journey started to revolve around traffic, traffic, traffic.

As everyone, I was also searching for free traffic. Some websites asked me to put their banners in my blog so that they can show my banners in their websites. Some websites told that submitting blog in dozens of blog directories would give bulk traffic.

My attempt on Cheap & Paid traffic Methods

I had tried & submitted in many blog directories and never had they given me traffic worthy for the time I put. My blog sidebar filled with at least 50 blog directories, RSS directories buttons.

I decided to give a try on cheap paid traffic methods so that I searched for it. Finally I came up with the idea of bulk directory submissions, article directory submissions. I searched for the best companies which would give me cheap directory submissions.

I found one Indian company which gave this type of solutions and Indian payment options. They send me the minimum possibility quote. I chose Rs.2400 for which I should get 250 directory submissions + 100 article submissions.

I asked the person who contacted me about how much traffic I would get per day. He told that at least I would receive 20 to 25 hits per day. I rushed to bank, sorry rushed to pawn shop and I pawned my ring fourth time, then I rushed to City bank and deposited the money in City Bank, Chennai.

Within 7 days, my blog submitted to the article & directory websites and I got full list of websites as excel sheet. I checked some of those websites, I could see my blog listed in free sections, I got 2 or 3 visits for next 2 days and then I didn’t get even single hit from those websites. I got vexed and came to know the poor worth of directory and article websites.

Yahoo answers Service – It was turning point

As you knew, I didn’t give up easily; I decided to try the free traffic methods. I searched and finally chose yahoo answers submission method to receive targeted traffic.

I have to tell here. Yahoo answers submission method was a good turning point. Even though I accidentally found the method as a free traffic source, I found that there were some people offered yahoo answers submission jobs in popular forums.

I immediately planned to take these yahoo answers writing jobs and started to look for the threads in Digital Point forum. Paypal was the commonly used payment mode. So I opened my first paypal account.

Every now and then some one posted Yahoo answers job. I immediately replied on those threads and took the job. I usually did 10 answers just for $2.

It might be very slavery jobs for the people living in US and other developed countries. But for the people who lived in countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Israel, South Africa etc, it was a great opportunity to earn part time online. I took few orders in initial days and done them immediately.

As many as questions I wrote, I could cross level by level in Yahoo answers and when my level increased, automatically I could answer more questions, I could vote for more answers.

Instead getting orders from the people who opened & gave those Yahoo answers writing jobs, I opened thread with the details of my previous work and how much I charged. I charged usually for 10 answers $3, 50 answers 10$ etc. I was getting fewer orders only.

Quality service in Cheap rate – Best Business Trick for anyone

But what happened was, once people satisfied with my work, ordered more & more, they became regular clients, so I wouldn’t need to open new threads again & again. I could successfully make at least 10 to 20$ per day if I could work 6 to 8 hours per day.

I could average my income online $600 per month. This was more than a IT firm salary for fresher like me for my Bachelor of engineering degree in India.

But see here, it was not so easy to make money through Yahoo answers writing service. There I used many tricks to get orders, keep orders, and finish orders quickly. I got disabled my DP (Digital point forum) accounts many time for the fault of using multiple accounts, I got used to open new paypal account so that I could work in DP without getting caught.

I don’t remember many of my account usernames in DP, many paypal email ids that I used on those days. I could manage to find at least later ones for screenshot proof. I will post them in next part of the series.

Within 1 or 2 months I earned more than what these IT people made in India. So I got more confidence about making my living online. Remember some folks could have earned more money. But as a person who had less- computer educated background, average family with no investments for online jobs, I was proud to make such money online.

Even though I made more than IT firm fresher salary, I did not satisfy. I could not understand what the reason was. But now I know what it is. It is the Y factor which I mentioned in first part of this series. I tell you later (hope it would be before end of this series).

But I could understand that I was looking for something different but doing something different. I analyzed and brought out three reasons for my dissatisfaction. 1. Writing Yahoo answers again and again could be bored.

2. I could have expected more income 3. I did not feel like settled in my life.

There were my guessing reasons. But I was not sure about what the real reason.

My next six months (first half or 2006 – 6^th semester) were going behind the idea of starting OWN website as I was believing that if I could set up one website, I would make money through ads. This idea happened to me as I had already seen some Google Adsense money making website program lesson ads. Those lessons were sold in CDs & eBooks and those websites promised BIG profit figures.

I can’t remember now the exact names of those websites. But few of them were googlecashcow, googlecashkey and so on. But as already I had experienced with many fake programs, I did not want to gather money for investing on those non-guaranteed programs and took risk.

Then I thought that I could search and find MYSELF about how to earn money with Google Adsense and a website. I came to know that if I had a website then I could use Google Adsense to make money.

Initially, it was very hard to understand the behind the scenes of starting a website. (A note here: I hadn’t heard the term blog). I was trying to figure out the basics of starting a website. I was regretting to learn any coding languages. I interested to use WYSIWYG type of services.

At that time, no free hosting website services had fallen in my eyes. So I thought I should buy a website. I read some web pages about how to start a website.

How to start a website?

These were what I found as requirements: A website name and some storage space.

I preferred to buy these requirements from a website service provider (I didn’t know the name ‘hosting’ so I didn’t learn to call them as hosting provider) who had inbuilt website building WYSIWYG editor.

Unfortunately I was given some foreign (Non-India based) providers in Google Search. They didn’t have any payment options that I could use. I did not have credit card, online bank account, paypal etc.

I could pay only in Indian Rupees through cash deposits on bank, demand draft or cheque.

I narrowed my search for Indian hosting providers (I learned the term ‘hosting’ as I was seeing that term in different web hosting provider websites that I was looking). I chose the one that I felt as it should be good. That was manas hosting-dot-com. I paid Rs.1500 for domain with hosting for 1 year through cash deposit in ICICI bank. (This amount had been paid by the remaining amount I had, from I pawned my gold ring.)

The domain name was earnmoneyonlinenow.com. They sent me login details. I logged in and the interface was NOT user-friendly. I couldn’t even identify where the WYSIWYG editor. I got vexed and after several tries finally I decided to leave the domain unused. My 1500 Rs had gone waste.

Second Time I pawned my Ring

Back then I had to pay semester fees. I received the amount from my father (I included the money needed to get back gold ring with semester fees. But I told my father that the whole amount was needed for semester fees. I hide the truth.)

I got back the ring but again in two weeks, pawned the ring for my browsing expenses.

I was always not giving up anything easily. I decided to take another try with another hosting provider. But accidentally I was looking at the free hosting websites. My mind got activated again and searched for best free hosting choices. That time there were some popular free hosting services.

One of them was freewebs.com (Now it gets changed a lot and domain name also changed to webs.com). I opened my account in freewebs. I even don’t remember the names of my free websites.

But I guess it could be pills.freewebs.com or something like that. (Pills was the nickname of my friend who came to browsing centers with me to pass time, but he also interested to learn such online things, but later he left interest, currently he is working as an engineer in a big auto firm).

I felt something easier than before as the freewebs environment was user friendly. But What I felt after using it for some days was, the overall design not satisfied me and I couldn’t design the layout as I wanted to. I think I wasted almost two full weeks in freewebs.

Again I started to search for free hosts. Some of other free hosts I tested were bravenet, doteasy etc. I had not satisfied with any of them. Every time it took more time to test each free host. Because I had to test a lot of factors. I was testing how to write a post, adjust fonts, colors and how to publish, how to use widgets like calendar, archives etc etc. Months passed. But I did nothing good.

I strongly believed that there were different not working things available in online but at the same time there would be some good really money making opportunities otherwise millions of users won’t look for online jobs and I should find them.

I proud to say I never give up

Another semester was ending nearly. When the time came to pay semester exam fees, I asked money from my father for it (I included the amount of gold ring as semester fees). My father managed to lend money from some one and paid me. I got back my gold ring.

I was worrying about I could not find a way to make money at least even a way to earn income through part time online jobs. I stopped browsing to concentrate on exams. Once exams finished, I increased my browsing hours.

I was going to browsing centers in all my leisure time and holidays. I searched for more and more website and money making programs. I remember slightly that I came across some ready made money making websites. They promised big profits if I would buy it.

Hmm…I browsed many more. But I remember few. One of them was www.free-money-making-website.com. Now they’ve removed that site and auto-forward to another one website.

I found very sooner that readymade money making websites were the worst way to earn money online. Those readymade website sellers targeted the people who didn’t have technical skills but wanted to start a website and make money through it. I was one of those people who want to get one website but even didn’t have idea about how the website would get traffic.

What is website Traffic? & Why am I calling Readymade websites are scams?

I thought that the traffic to any website in Internet came through only search engines. What a Fool I was! I was clicking links in every website and went to another website but I did not know about referral traffic. Really I was a big fool.

Once I bought a ready made website, a truth I came to know that all new websites wouldn’t get good amount of traffic through search engines and there should be some other traffic sources.

Also I learned that if I want to achieve any goal then I should look for the end target and how the whole system works. If I would have done it then I had not been cheated. My ring went to pawnshop due to the readymade money making website. I told myself I should earn at least some money in one or two months and get back the ring.

But it did not happen.

Another one month had gone waste. I promised myself that I should NOT look back on these readymade programs and I should try to create anything in my hand. I learned ‘the things I could create by my own hand only would help me to make money online’. So again I went back for searching to create a website but with a free host.

First Time I was with Blogspot.com

I came across the blogspot at first time. This was the place where people all over world was writing content and making money through Adsense. But I didn’t know about how much popular blogspot was.

I was sure that I was going to start a website with blogspot. I didn’t know what was a blog? I did not know that the difference between the blogspot and website.

Successfully I published my first post.

I had done that easily. I hadn’t spent much time like I was in my previous free host experiences. Blogspot was great. It was easy to me access. At that day I went back to my hostel and at night I felt much happy before sleep and started to dream, not in sleep but in real, my dream was like this “I should build more content & I should make more money”. On the bed, I planned what should I do on next day in my blog.

Next day I went to browsing center as soon as possible after the college hours and wrote my second post and then hit publish button. Oh! God! My new post came to home page and the old post had gone to next page.

I was again worrying because blogspot also was not working as I would like to be. I searched for several options but I could not find the solution for that problem. Actually problem was not blogspot side. It was me. I didn’t know what a blog was.

The night at bed, I worried about I could not fix a simple thing and wondered how I would start a successful blog and make money. As I was not giving anything easily, I rushed to browsing centre next day and I did a small trick I copied the first post and published as a new post so that it could come on first page.

Once it came on first post, I deleted the first post to avoid duplicate content problems. I was doing the same trick (?) everyday after posting new posts (I think I did it for at least 2 weeks).

I applied for Google Adsense within couple of weeks. Getting approval from Adsense was not……..

“Y” Factor

I accept I do all these with the expectation of something I would like to get back. But I bet, you will be wrong if you guess what I expect. I’ll let you know what it is at end of this series. Until then we will keep it as “Y” factor (X factor has been reserved by many folks. So I go for “Y” ).

Ok. I admit, I am not really that much good at writing. But I am knowledgeable; I don’t know what other people know about me? At least I believe that I am knowledgeable. So here I start my online history. If you feel I am wrong at any point then stop me at that point.

How I entered into online?

No mystery. Like almost every human being I wanted to live better so I wanted to make more money. It was my 3^rd year of college at 2005. Before 2005 there was 20 years of my life crossed, a lot of happenings on those 20 years but that story is not to write here, that is not even for another blog post series but that is for a million dollar best selling book. I don’t want to add smileys here. Because I am serious.

It was my 3^rd year of college, the year was 2005. Day by day my pocket was melting. One day I was in dire need of money. I got money from my friend and pushed the moment. Very sooner again I was in dire need of money. It happened to me again & again.

Due to this, I could not concentrate even on my mysterious college study and also I could not dream for my future. Finally I wanted to become financially freedom so that I could work on the things I wanted to, without any mental stresses.

Started with Money Making Keywords

Then I took Rs.20 (I remember that’s what the only balance I had in my hand) less than half of a dollar and entered into a browsing centre, this was the very cheap one in my nearby living place and there I was going to watch my semester results for every semester.

I entered into Google and started to type different keywords “part time jobs”, “part time online jobs”, “make money online” and different combination of such money making keywords.

I felt upright & I imagined as I was doing something big that was unknown to my friends, families and my surroundings. I was given plenty of money making programs in Google SERP. Those programs were enough to ruin my next 6 months. It may take lesser time to someone to know what it is. But as I was getting very few hours (3 to 6 hours per week) to browse, I had taken 6 months to become aware of about those false programs.

First Time I pawned my ring

In between these 6 months, I had fallen in two fake-cheating-money making programs. One was earn-money.co.in & another one was kmchat.com. I have lost my money. The money may be low now. But that was very big at that time as I had been struggling to get money for even my monthly expenses & studies.

In fact, I did not have money to pay for those fake programs. I pawned my gold ring that was given to me by my most lovable woman (grandma) to pay for those two programs, I didn’t decide to pawn it EASILY, it WAS really hard, but I did, because I believed, “I can”.

Even though I had experienced those two happenings, I was not afraid to continue my journey in online. Rather then I was feeling better as I could find such type of fake programs at first glance.

I started to read reviews and experiences of others for the new programs on which I interested to try before I put my hand on it. I hadn’t done such research for reviews in my previous case. L

I had been learning about the following type of  money making programs.

• Data entry programs
• Paid to read email programs
• Paid to surf programs
• Paid to download toolbars
• Email forwarding programs
• Paid to click on ads
• Pyramid programs
• Paid for surveys
• Paid to fill forms

My six months were passed in the above programs. I spent plenty of my time online in browsing centers.

Fake Money Making Programs

Daily I was seeing something new in online and believed it would be the program which could change my life completely. I was registering my email in hundreds of websites. I was arrogant to see my inbox always full.

I was seeing the paid to surf ads. I was waiting for 30 seconds to see every next ad. My earnings were credited in my login. But they were always just numbers.

I was in dream at remaining hours in offline. As paid to survey & paid to fill forms promised up to $25 per survey/form, I was dreaming everyday how much would I make, if I can do 10 surveys, how much would I make if I can do 20, 50,100….

I could not convert those numbers as cash EVER. I could not reach minimum payout at any of my logins. Even some websites credited my earnings at “My account” area with 100 US $ for every ad I visited. They told minimum payout is 20000 US $. I was seeing ads again and again. If I reached ‘daily visit limit’ then next day I rushed to browse to continue my visits. I believed that I would make 20000 US $ from such paid to surf programs. How big an Idiot I was! I feel shame now.

Today Google better than it was before 5 years

Today I searched on Google for such programs. I could not find the same websites which I visited on those days. I think Google is better now than those times when I fell on such programs. Thanks to Google for helping us to find better results. But still some fake programs are there in Google.

These programs not look like the traditional ones I was seeing. (I will try to mention what are those programs. in coming posts on this series) These new programs are targeted based on the current people’s mind sets (Focusing on mind sets of audience/ clients is the key to blogging/business success).

Bloggers are always hard workers. They listen to, grasp and take the plunge on some strategy which they believe will take them to a blogging success. Sooner or later many of the bloggers understand that the strategy did not take them where they wanted to go.

Bloggers choose every strategy that has been recommended by someone as a good one. Then why could they not reach where they actually wanted to go? Why does something work for a big guy (cheese), but not for someone just starting?

They listen to what to do. But maybe not to when to do it? This is why they are failing even though they work hard. If they knew when to work on a certain strategy they could become more productive. Below I will give you some hints which will guide to take the right actions at the right time.

When should you write Guest posts?

Guest posts will help expose bloggers to a lot of readers.

The aim of any blogger is creating traffic and making money. Good content is decisive and without good content you will not get new readers and followers and thus no traffic nor money. Here are some guidelines to get the most out of your guest posts.

When should you write Guest posts?

1. You have killer recent posts which match with guest post readers’ expectations. Readers want to make sure you are writing continuously about what they want to know.

For example, my guest post is published on Problogger today. When you go to my blog, I have already set up a free report about ‘How I got 100K page views’ to welcome you and to show my best. I have fresh posts on my home page catching the readers’ attention.

When Social Media works?

If you don’t have excellent content then there is no job for your GreaseMonkey or automated tools which can add thousands of followers to you per day.

What happens when you use such software? People glimpse “hey someone follows me and who is this?” Actually they check your profiles to learn whether you are really following him because of  their content or if you have just added them because you want them to follow you back.

If you, at that moment, can show good content then you will get a loyal reader of your blog.

Any other social media such as  Facebook, Linkedin, Digg, SU, Del.icio.us also works on same principle. Social bookmarking websites need the best content for their readers. When you write the best content, your post will be on their first pages, even though you have not signed up on any  social media and even though you haven’t put social bookmark buttons on your blog.

When should you conduct Contests?

The idea with a contest is to spread your name and your blog with the help of your readers.

Is this happening? In many cases it is not and why is that?

Most likely your prizes are not attractive enough.

When should you conduct contests?

Your contest should make people wanting to win the prize. If this is not the case, your contest will not be as popular as you would like it to be. If you offer a high quality prize, then your readers will take action.

If you are asking people to blog about your contest to get points in your contest, you must also make sure that your blog contains very good content.

Why do I not get any affiliate income?

I started my “blog about blog”  with this post “How to register a domain name” and then “How to register a web Hosting?”

I was not alone. So many bloggers did the same. Today also so many newcomers do the same. No one bought a domain and hosting through my affiliate links for a long time.

When I started to write about the Thesis theme, I asked two of my readers to buy it through my affiliate link. They never came back to my blog or they might be reading it secretly without making comments or tweets.

I got vexed and left the idea of making money through affiliate links. I started to invest my time on building the best tutorials rather than looking for tutorials to promote as an affiliate.

Then what happened?

People who wanted to buy the Thesis theme, did research it at Google before buying it to find reviews and to find out about how to customize it.

I reached the top places in the search results for almost any combination of  the keywords for the Thesis theme.

Naturally, I then started to get some buyers and to receive affiliate commissions for the Thesis theme. Sometimes people also signed up for hosting through my link.

When should you launch Your Product?

Many bloggers consider a product launch to be a good money making idea. It might be e Books, membership site or plug-ins.However, a product launch will not be a big hit unless some criteria are met first.

You should for example get a few emails every week, praising your content. Your readers’ should not think twice about recommending you to someone else. There should also be many and positive comments from your readers on your blog.

When should you comment?

Comments are the foremost reason to the growth of the blogging industry. Comments have been used as a traffic source and many times recommended to others.

When I started my blog, I prepared a list of 40 blogs in my niche to comment frequently on. I was commenting on all new posts. Those blog authors did the same on my blog.

However, if I stopped commenting on one blog, that author also stopped commenting on my blog. Sometimes I got more visits through comments. In a little while I learned what sort of comments worked well.

Comments on which I can express myself & my blog content, worked well. For example, Darren posted a post about standing out from the crowd in a certain niche. I commented on how I was using video to stand out from the crowd.

Problogger readers viewed my comment, became excited and visited my blog. It was only a few, but this type of comment was the only one to bring me traffic.

Now I only comment on other blogs, when I can contribute with my experience and refer back to my own blog for more details, especially when professional bloggers ask for comments on a particular topic. I get visitors to my blog this way.

You should get good ROT (Return on Time Invested) in your commenting efforts. Else you can spend your commenting time on building great content. It will give your more ROT.

In my experience, I stopped comment for comment method and used that 2 hours (that I was spending everyday) in preparing videos for FourBlogger tutorials. The time I spent on creating videos was the great return for my efforts.

So what I suggest for commenting method is,

If you really love a post and get more information on that then don’t forget to show your thanks as a comment.

If you expect traffic from your comment then do it only when you can express your observations.

If your niche is based on 100% content and not on promotional methods then you can comment on your niche blogs. For example, if you write about personal development, minimalist etc then comments are the great way to get traffic.

When should you ask for help?

I used to ask for help whenever I needed to get something done or when I wanted to grow my blog.

When I got a negative response or no response at all, I wondered why I was rejected every time.

The real reason was that I never helped anyone in the first place nor was my content so great that it would be recommended to others.

So what you must do is to build great content. Then you must help your readers and other bloggers in your niche. Soon they will come to you to ask you to help them and they will help you in return.

The only time you can ask for help is  when you receive positive feedback or someone offers volunteer support. The only persons from whom you can expect help is from your readers. Because they really love you and you love them.

When you should spend money?

I spent money for my domain, hosting and email marketing. I never spent a dime for any other thing. The only time you can spend money is when you earned more than what you are going to spend. For example, if you want to spend 50$ on one product, you should have already earned more than that.

You can spend money only on blogging coaching programs or books about blogging before you make your first money. At no other time should you spend money before making money with blogging.

When you should give advice to your readers?

Advice is free. Giving it is easy as 1+2=3.  Accepting it is a dignity issue. You can offer advice through your blog posts from day 1 one of your blog launch.

You should not offer personal advice to anyone until many of your readers ask for it by themselves.
