This is time to multiplex our blog traffic via embedded videos. Part one of how to create video sitemap and drive more traffic post explained about how to create video sitemap for our own hosted videos. This part 2 deals about create video sitemap for the video embedded from video sharing sites like Youtube, 5min, Mata café etc and how to create sitemap index file. These are all the sites have been tested by Fourblogger labs and sitemap has successfully crawled by google and video results displayed in google search results. You can also drive traffic from third person’s video which has been uploaded in video sharing sites in this process.
For example, consider you created a video for particular blog post and uploaded this video in all video sharing sites like youtube. You get the embed code from youtube and embed this video in your blog post. While someone searching particular key word related to this blog post, your youtube video is shown in search results. If searcher clicks on this video result, the traffic goes to youtube.
To divert this traffic straight to your blog, you should create video sitemap. This process is one of the video SEO technique. Once you created video sitemap for the embedded video, Google can show your blog post with video thumbnail. If someone clicks on the link, searcher comes to your blog post that contains video. By default traffic comes to your site.
Beauty of this method is, you no need to create video to embed video in your blog post. Search the video that relevant to your blog post in youtube. Embed this video in your post and create sitemap for this video content and get more traffic from google.
The reasons to create video sitemap for the embed video is, Google shows less number of video results while showing results for search query. It’s not because of less video resource available in web. It is all about no one give (do video SEO) the information to search engines as ‘my blog post has video information’. That’s why we need to create video sitemap.
Video sitemap is a media which gives information to search engines about your blog post contains video content.
In this post what I am trying to insist you is
Embed youtube videos -Create video sitemap – Get more traffic
I created video sitemap for the youtube video which embedded in my blog post. Submitted video sitemap in google, it successfully crawled the video sitemap. Check out this key word how to install theme from library, Google shows our video result and for this key word ‘how to install theme from wordpress theme library’, Google shows our blog video along with youtube video.
How to get player location and content location from video sharing sites?
These are all the information needed to create video sitemap
- Video embedded Blog post url
- Video thumbnail image location
- Title of the video
- Description of the video
- Tags of the video
- Duration of the video
- Video file uploaded path
- Video player uploaded path
All the information easily available for the video you got from video sharing sites except content location and player location ie) last two of the above list.
If you are embedded the video from the video sharing site like you tube, (It may be your video or the video uploaded by others) You can create video sitemap for the video and get more search engine visits to your site and build more brand value to your site or blog.
We can start with largest video sharing site youtube.
How to create video sitemap for Youtube videos embedded in your blog?
Youtube is the second largest search engine in online and also biggest video sharing site. You can get any type of video to embed in your blog from youtube. It is not easy to create video sitemap for youtube videos. Because we are not able to find player location or content location from youtube video embed code. After a long experiment in Fourblogger labs we found a way to create video sitemap for youtube videos. We used linkedtube to create video sitemap for youtube videos.
Step by step procedure to create video sitemap for youtube videos
Get the video url from youtube which is going to be embedded to your blog post.
Go to www.linkedtube.com this site used for adding clickable link in youtube videos. In other words linked tube used to create free clickable link widget for youtube videos. Linkedtube is asking some information to create link widget for the video which you are going to embed in your blog post.
Give video URL you got from youtube. If you want, you can add clickable link by enabling link button in button mode.
Here we have three options
- Show always
- Show on hover
- Never show
When you select ‘never show’, there is no clickable link in your video. For other two options, you can give link URL, title for the video and fill out other options as per the instruction given by linked tube.
Don’t worry about selecting these options for creating sitemap. These options only for adding clickable link in your video not for creating video sitemap.
Then why we are coming here? Answer: To find the player location for this video! If you want link fill options, otherwise select ‘never show’ in button mode, finally hit enter on save and get the code.
Now the embed code is available in left side. Copy this embed code & Paste where you want this video in your blog post by the same way as embedding youtube video in your blog post.
This embed code contains the player location and content location of the video has been added in your blog post. The below code is an embed code for youtube video I got from linkedtube.com
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400px" height="325px"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.linkedtube.com/static/flash/player.swf?sum=&btn=thesis&txt=How%20to%20Change%20Html%20Tags%20Style&vis=always&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Ffourblogger&vid=t9hFSsAUdK8"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <embed src="http://www.linkedtube.com/static/flash/player.swf?sum=&btn=thesis&txt=How%20to%20Change%20Html%20Tags%20Style&vis=always&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Ffourblogger&vid=t9hFSsAUdK8" width="400px" height="325px" quality="high" menu="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><noembed><a href="http://www.linkedtube.com/t9hFSsAUdK8eb0a64cb228935b6b053b9870d218d0c.htm">LinkedTube</a></noembed></embed> </object>
In this code, the code mentioned in red color is the content location.
Content location: http://www.linkedtube.com/static/flash/player.swf? t9hFSsAUdK8
Player location: http://www.linkedtube.com/static/flash/player.swf? t9hFSsAUdK8
We know other above listed information like video embed page url <loc>, video thumbnail, title, description, tag and duration.
The common structure and step by step procedure to create video sitemap is given in previous post. As per the instruction given in that post you can create sitemap.
Once you created video sitemap your video sitemap.xml file, then submit this sitemap in google webmaster tools. The Procedure to submit video sitemap in webmaster tools is available in previous post.
What you need to know to create video sitemap at first?
- Finding player location and content location is difficult part of sitemap creation process for videos that are embedded in your blog post from video sharing sites.
- If you submitted multiple sitemap, you need to create sitemap index file this will explained in later part of this post.
How create video sitemap for the video embedded from video sharing sites?
The process of creating video sitemap for the embedded video from video sharing site to your blog post is similar to create video sitemap for your own video uploaded in your blog (which is explained in part 1 of this post).
The only difference is video player location and content location of the embedded video.
For example, if your embedded a video from http://www.5min.com to your blog in a particular post, you will get the player and content location from the embedded code itself and you can create video sitemap using these details for your blog post that has video content.
This is the embed code I got from 5min.com
<object width='480' height='401' id='FiveminPlayer' classid='clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000'> <param name='allowfullscreen' value='true'/> <param name='allowScriptAccess' value='always'/> <param name='movie' value='http://embed.5min.com/260209680/'/> <param name='wmode' value='window' /> <embed name='FiveminPlayer' src='http://embed.5min.com/260209680/' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' width='480' height='401' allowfullscreen='true' allowScriptAccess='always' wmode='window'> </embed> </object>
In the above code, the content location is highlighted in red color
http://embed.5min.com/260209680/ this is not content location, paste this url in your browser address bar and hit enter.
While playing the video get the url from addressbar it is like the below code
In the above URL, this part is the player location & content location of your video sitemap. Now you can create video sitemap using the previous tutorial.
Content_loc : http://embed.5min.com/260209680/
I created video sitemap using this location, it is successfully crawled by Google and displayed in search results for the key word floating feedback icons and floating icons in thesis you can check it out.
Second one is metacafe
To find content and player location for particular video embedded from metacafe, use the below procedure.
The below code is video embed code we got from http://www.metacafe.com
Inside the embed code we have player location and content location.
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="460" height="398" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="name" value="Metacafe_4180906" /><param name="flashvars" value="playerVars=showStats=yes|autoPlay=no|videoTitle=How to Highlight Author Comments with Image and Background Color" /><param name="src" value="http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/4180906/how_to_highlight_author_comments_with_image_and_background_color.swf" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="460" height="398" src="http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/4180906/how_to_highlight_author_comments_with_image_and_background_color.swf" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" flashvars="playerVars=showStats=yes|autoPlay=no|videoTitle=How to Highlight Author Comments with Image and Background Color" name="Metacafe_4180906"></embed></object>
The above code content location and player location highlighted in red color.
Content location: http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/4180906/how_to_highlight_author_comments_with_image_and_background_color.swf
Player location: http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/4180906/how_to_highlight_author_comments_with_image_and_background_color.swf
Give this part of code in content location specified in video sitemap which has player location also so no need to give player location separately. You can create video sitemap using the previous post instructions.
By the similar way, we can create video sitemap for all type of videos embedded from different video sharing sites. You can check it out by searching the key word highlight author comments in thesis in google search.
Create video sitemap and show visitors my blog post has video content along with valuable text information.
How to create video sitemap for multiple videos in single page?
Consider that your blog post may contain more than one video. Example: two videos. Now how to inform search engines my blog post contains two video contents? Answer is quite simple.
We know the general structure of video sitemap. In this structure, first tag is for post URL that contains video. For each video you should use separate <video:video> tag. Give all the video information separately. All the information about two videos are within the <url> to </url>tag.
Single video sitemap file allow nearly 10,000 video contents. If you have more than 10,000 video contents you can create multiple video sitemaps and sitemap index file which used to include all sitemaps.
This sitemap index file has all the video sitemap files with the date and time of last modified. This information is useful for search engine to immediately crawl if any modification available in the sitemaps.
After filling all information in video sitemap save this file as videositemap.xml format.
How to create video sitemap index file for multiple video sitemaps?
Why multiple video sitemap files?
Consider you are having more than one video sitemap file. This time you need to create video sitemap index file which contains all the video sitemap files in it along with last modified date and time of the each sitemap file. If you are planning to start video sharing site, here definitely you need to know about creating video sitemap index file, in order to cover all the video file in your website.
Another use of the index file is, I think there is no automatic video sitemap generator. Once you created one video sitemap & you submitted it in search engines, after a particular period of time your site may contains some more new videos on it. Now you need to create sitemap for these videos by two ways
One is adding new video pages in previously created video sitemap. Second one without disturbing the previous sitemap, create new sitemap for second set of videos. Now you are having multiple video sitemaps in your webmaster So now it is necessary to create video sitemap index file.
How to create Video sitemap index file?
The common structure for video sitemap index file is, you can get from google webmasters help
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> <sitemap> <loc>http://www.fourblogger.com/videositemap6.xml</loc> <lastmod>2010-04-19</lastmod> </sitemap> <sitemap> <loc>http://www.fourblogger.com/videositemap5.xml</loc> <lastmod>2010-04-04</lastmod> </sitemap> </sitemapindex>
In the above code, we give each video sitemap file name between the <sitemap> to </sitemap> tag. Videositemap5.xml and videositemap6.xml are two individual video sitemaps which have already been created by me. If you have more files, you can add it inside the index file. Also give the last modified date and time for each file which is useful for search engines to crawl sitemaps immediately. Video sitemap index file is also .xml file.
You should submit all the video sitemap files inside the index file in webmaster tools. Also submit video sitemap index file in the similar way as you submitted video sitemap.xml file in webmasters.
Hope if all the above works when you create sitemap, you will be getting more traffic from Google. I really can help you, if you mention your questions in comments below or my YouTube video comments.
